usually written in a really cool knitting short hand I call
knit texting! I’ve made a list here of the letter
combinations you see most often. Once you see and use them a
couple times, you won’t even have to look them up anymore.
( ) or [ ] - work instructions within brackets or
parentheses as many times as directed
* * - repeat instructions between the asterisks as
directed
approx – approximately
beg – beginning
BO – bind off
CC – contrasting color
cm – centimeter
CO – cast on
cont – continue
dec – decrease
g – gram
in(s) - inch(es)
inc(s) – increase(s)
K – knit
k2tog – knit two stitches together (decrease)
kfb – knit in the front and back (increase)
LH – left hand
lp(s) – loop(s)
m - meter
M1 – make one
MC – main color
oz – ounce(s)
P – purl
p2tog – purl two stitches together
pat - pattern
pm – place marker
psso – pass slip stitch over
rem – remaining
rep – repeat
rev St st – reverse stockinette stitch
RH – right hand
rnd(s) – round(s)
RS – right side
Sl – slip stitch
st(s) – stitch(es)
St st – stockinette stitch
tog – together
WS – wrong side
yd(s) – yard(s)
yo – yarn over
