There are several ways to decrease stitches. The easiest way is to knit two stitches together. If a pattern wants you to decrease in a different way, the pattern will usually explain how to do it.

Here’s how you knit two stitches together. The abbreviation for this is k2tog.

Put the right needle into the next two stitches on the left needle. Do this by putting the needle into the second stitch from the end first and then into the first stitch.
Knit both stitches together just as though they were one stitch.

Slide the decreased stitch onto the right needle.

You can purl two stitches together in the same way. The abbreviation for this is p2tog.
