There are several ways to increase stitches. If you are at the
beginning of a row, you can add a new stitch using the e-wrap
cast on you learned in Show Me How: Knitting. If you are
increasing in the middle of the row, the easiest way to do it is
to knit into the front and back of a stitch. (You can also do
this at the beginning of a row if you want to.) Some patterns
may want you to increase in a different way. If they do, the
pattern will usually explain how to do it.
Here’s how you knit into the front and back of the stitch. The
abbreviation for this is kfb.

Knit into the stitch as usual but don’t pull the stitch off
the needle. |
 |

Now knit into the back of the same stitch. |
 |
Finish this stitch by pulling off the left needle. |
 |

You now have the original stitch and an extra stitch on the
right needle. |
